Fair Project Highlight: Fight Spam with Outlook Add-In for One-Time E-Mail Addresses

Earlier this week one of our users posted a software project that I found particularly interesting. We all hate spam.

The concept is to provide means from Outlook to generate temporary and unique e-mail addresses, just like one-time credit card numbers avoid exposing authentic credit card numbers when shopping online.

What’s new is the idea that it could be done transparently, from Outlook, while being compatible with large corporate networks that use Exchange.

To quote the description on FairSoftware:

Outlook Add-In that grants corporate mail system end users the ability to self-provision one time use or temporary use Email Addresses for use in online forms.

I contacted Robert Farkas, of Tampa Bay, Florida, who came up with the idea, to find out more. Here’s what he said:

This project is an idea I’ve kicked around for a while; I’m looking forward to engaging the technical types necessary to flush out a proof of concept, which I’m confident will lead to the usual cycle of refinement and eventually a working, viable product

Robert is no beginner. He has been working in IT for more than 13 years.

The “Pseudo Email Address” project is looking for developers who understand Outlook Add-Ins and also Exchange and Active Directory, since that’s its primary target.

I like the idea. Everyone is welcome to help and comment, even if you can’t participate in the software development itself.
